In the year 1918, it was known as the medical faculty of Taurida University. In 1931, the university was split up and became the Crimea Medical Institute, a self-contained body. It was named as the Crimea State Medical University in 1995. The institution was upgraded to the fourth (highest) accreditation level in 1998. 


Crimea State Medical University's clinical departments are spread throughout 47 clinical bases around Crimea. The Crimea State Medical University library, which was established in 1956, plays an essential role in the organization of a multi-faceted educational process. The library's fund was refreshed with fresh instructional and scientific materials throughout a 45-year period. There are now over 800,000 volumes in the collection. The campus is located on the banks of the Salgir River, about a five-minute walk from the academic buildings. Students who have recently arrived are housed in Hostel No. 2 on the University's grounds. This hostel has rooms for three or four people. Every floor has a bathing room, two kitchens, and a classroom. On the University's grounds, there are also a number of student canteens and cafes. Other campus hostels provide rooms that can accommodate two or three people. These are apartment-style hostels.


Food shops, Indian, Malaysian, Chinese, and Arabic cafes, many Internet cafés, public telephones, a laundry, a sports ground, and a specific spot for barbeque grilling can all be found on the campus's grounds. A taxi stand is also located close to the campus. There is an electronic reading hall at Hotel No. 4 where students can go to the University website and have access to all of the teaching and methodical manuals they need to prepare for lectures and tests. Employees of the guard service safeguard and monitor the University's property as well as the main student routes from the dorms to the educational facilities.
